(The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia - F.Y.R.O.M)

FYROM flagMacedonia (former Yugoslav Republic) is a country in southeastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula. It declared its independence from Yugoslavia in November 1991. After independence, the Republic of Macedonia became involved in a dispute with Greece over its name and other issues. In April 1993 the United Nations (UN) admitted the republic under the temporary name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) until a settlement with Greece could be reached. Skopje is the capital and largest city.
